Working with Youth

Picture
The changes that the adolescent has to navigate are both incredible and essential.  Recent neurological research on the adolescent brain has highlighted some particular areas that are significantly altered during this transition.  This means the adolescent brain is operating according to some very different drivers and controls.  The child and adult brain are more similar to each other in operation than either of these are to the adolescent. (But those working with youth know that already!!)
Understanding the neurological underpinnings of these alterations during adolescence will help those working in the field develop better ways of interacting with youth and supporting their development.  It will make your work less frustrating and more rewarding.  Even more importantly, we will understand better ways of assisting our youth through the transition they are making towards being contributing, satisfied adults.  That is good for the youth, us and the community as a whole!
Let me share with you the actual neurological changes that are occurring for these youth, along with the biological drives that underpin so much of what is happening.

Some comments from this training:
-  So now I know why I felt like I was either talking to myself or hitting a brick wall.  Extremely informative.
-  A huge enlightening as to why teenage girls are like they are!
-  It explained a lot of things and will really help me  understand my children better
-  All parents, youth workers and basically anyone with any contact with youth will benefit from this training...
